AFL Round 14 Fixtures - Power and Demons face key battle

  • What games are taking place in AFL Round 14?

Round 14 of the AFL home and away season gets underway on Thursday night when the West Coast Eagles play host to Essendon at Perth Stadium.

The June 21 encounter pits the 2nd placed Eagles up against the Bombers, who are 13th on the ladder and the action gets underway at 6.10PM local time or 8.10PM AEST.

The Eagles will be looking to bounce back after dropping just their second game for the year last weekend, a 15 point loss at the hands of Sydney.

The home side will head in as strong favourites against Essendon, who need to produce an unlikely win to stay in touch with those in the eight. John Worsfold's side come off the bye in round 13. Prior to the break they defeated the Brisbane Lions.

On Friday night, the action heads to Adelaide for what shapes as an interesting clash between Port Adelaide and Melbourne. Both sides currently sit in the top eight.

The Power have won four of their past five. Two of those have come in the past fortnight with both of those were at the Adelaide Oval. They came against last year's premiers, Richmond, in Round 12 as well as the Western Bulldogs last weekend.

Should they continue their rich vein of form they will surpass Melbourne on the ladder. The Demons had the bye last weekend. Prior to that, they were disappointing, losing another big game at the MCG to Collingwood on Queens Birthday. The Power have been posted as the $1.53 favourites in the head to head betting.

Round 14 is the last of the 'bye' rounds. Six sides are out of action and they are Adelaide, Fremantle, Geelong, Richmond, St Kilda and the Sydney Swans.

Four games are scheduled over the course of the weekend. Hawthorn enjoy a great opportunity to take another step towards September when they take on the Gold Coast Suns at UTAS Stadium in Launceston, while the GWS Giants travel to Brisbane to take on the Lions.

Saturday night football sees the Western Bulldogs take on North Melbourne. The Kangaroos head in as favourites for this and will be out to consolidate their position in what is a bottleneck for top eight spots.

On Sunday, it is the traditional rivals, Collingwood and Carlton, that square off at the MCG. The Magpies have been one of the form sides in recent times and can take their win-loss record to an impressive 9-4 with victory. This will place them within striking distance of the top four
